BAGHDAD – Abu Mahdi al-Jaafari, the military spokesperson for the Iraqi-based group “Saraya Awliya al-Dam,” issued a stern warning Thursday regarding potential U.S. military escalation, specifically cautioning against any ground operations targeting Iranian territory.
In a formal statement, al-Jaafari characterized any potential American incursion as a catastrophic miscalculation. The group, which operates under the umbrella of the Islamic Resistance in Iraq, signaled that such an escalation would trigger a prolonged and costly conflict.
”No Military Picnic”
Addressing the possibility of a U.S. ground maneuver, al-Jaafari emphasized that the resistance is prepared for a war of attrition.
”Let the Americans know that any such incursion will not be a military picnic, but rather an open-ended quagmire with no end in sight,” al-Jaafari stated.
The spokesperson further claimed that in such a scenario, “willpower will be depleted before equipment,” suggesting that the psychological and human cost would outweigh technological advantages. He concluded by asserting that “any calculations for survival will be disrupted” should a ground assault be initiated.

The warning comes amid heightened regional tensions and underscores the coordination between various factions of the Islamic Resistance in Iraq and their strategic alignment with Tehran. While the U.S. has frequently conducted airstrikes against militia infrastructure in the region, a ground operation inside Iran would represent a massive departure from current engagement rules—a move Saraya Awliya al-Dam insists would result in total regional instability.
