The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) is set to host the 13th annual LSE Africa Summit on March 28, 2026. This year’s landmark event centers on the transformative potential of technology under the theme: “Artificial Intelligence and Unifying Borders in Africa.”
Digital Visionary Takes Center Stage
The summit organizers have confirmed that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the 7th Vice President of the Republic of Ghana (2017–2025), will deliver the keynote address. Dr. Bawumia, a renowned economist and architect of Ghana’s aggressive digitalization agenda, is expected to provide a roadmap for how emerging technologies can dismantle traditional barriers to trade, governance, and social integration across the continent.
During his tenure as Vice President, Dr. Bawumia championed several “digital first” initiatives, including the national biometric ID system and mobile money interoperability. His address is anticipated to bridge the gap between policy and practice, exploring how AI can accelerate the goals of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
A Hub for African Discourse
Established in 2014, the LSE Africa Summit has grown into Europe’s premier student-led platform for African-centric scholarship and policy debate. The 2026 edition aims to bring together:

To discuss the ethical frameworks required for AI in developing economies.
Tech Innovators: Showcasing local AI solutions for agriculture, healthcare, and finance.
Analyzing the socio-economic impact of a “borderless” digital Africa.
”The 2026 Summit comes at a critical juncture where AI is no longer a distant prospect but a current tool for reshaping Africa’s socio-economic landscape,” a spokesperson for the LSE Africa Summit team stated.
The event will be held at the LSE campus in London, featuring a mix of panel discussions, workshops, and high-level networking sessions designed to foster collaboration between the African diaspora and global stakeholders.
